Website or app? How to choose
A question every digital project faces. The answer isn't about what's newest, but who will use it and how.
'Should I build a website or an app?' is where many projects begin, and it's often answered by fashion rather than need. The truth is each option has its place, and the right decision starts from understanding who will use your product, how and when.
When a website is enough
If the user will visit you now and then — to browse, buy or get in touch — a website is usually the better fit. It works on every device without installing, shows up in search results, costs less and updates faster. Many ideas that ask for an app actually need a good, responsive website.
When you need an app
An app becomes necessary when the user needs you daily, or when you need the device's own capabilities: notifications, camera, location, or offline use. An app builds a habit and a presence on the user's screen — but it asks them to install it, a barrier you should be worth crossing.
And don't forget the third option
Between the two sits a third option: the Progressive Web App (PWA), which blends a website's reach with some of an app's features. It's not a full substitute, but it's a smart starting point for many projects that don't want to commit to a full app before they're sure of the need.
Don't ask which is newer — ask which meets your user where they already are.
